Junk Mail | Feb. 4th

“Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.”

  2 Kings 19:14

  Beloved, we have recently observed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year, a season marked by the exchange of greetings, celebrations, and well-wishes. While it is uplifting to receive such messages, not every card, email, text, or spoken word in life brings encouragement.

  Hezekiah received a message from Sennacherib, king of Assyria, that Jerusalem would be destroyed. Hezekiah took this letter, brought it into the house of God, and laid it before the Lord. When we receive difficult news or face hardship and temptations, let us lay ourselves and our burdens before the Lord.

  Present your needs before God and express to Him clearly what troubles you or threatens your well-being. God remains with you and will not abandon you. Just as Hezekiah trusted that his help would come from God, let us also call out to God, for He will answer.

Never to Much | Feb. 3rd

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”

   Psalm 55:22

  As a young man, one of my responsibilities was taking care of the firewood. This involved splitting, stacking, and ensuring there was always enough wood in the house. At times, to complete this chore more efficiently, we would load each other's arms with as much wood as possible to reduce the number of trips to the woodpile. Occasionally, the load became too heavy to carry, forcing us to drop it and return for smaller amounts.

  Beloved , God never struggles with our burdens. When we give our worries to Him, there is nothing He cannot handle or help us with. He will never be overwhelmed, and He will never let us fall. Our burdens may be too much for us, but they teach us to turn to God. The challenges we face help us trust Him, seek His will, and rest in His care.

When we remember that God loved us first, it helps us become humble and willing to give our worries to Him. Don’t be afraid to bring your cares to God; He will never let you go.

The Light of the World | Feb. 2nd

“God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth. ‘ And God made the two great lights, the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night, and the stars.”

Genesis 1:14-16

Beloved, let us consider God’s power, wisdom, and providence in creation. He established the greater and lesser lights in the heavens to govern the day and the night. God appointed them as signs and as markers for days, years, and seasons. Often, we overlook the steadfast order of God’s creation.

  The wonder of God’s wisdom and compassion in creation is eclipsed by the coming of Christ. The Lord has come to us as the light of the world so that we are no longer lost in the darkness of sin. In Him we have the light of life. Our days, years, and seasons are filled with the abiding Holy Spirit. There is not one moment of any day that we are not in Christ. Through Christ, we are filled with the Spirit of God and are His children.

Day and night, God’s providential care remains active in our lives. Our greatest comfort is that we belong to God and that He preserves us. There is no greater light than Jesus. In Him, we have eternal life, peace for each day, and assurance through the night. Although we do not know what tomorrow holds, as those who belong to God, we trust that He works all things for the good of our salvation.
