He is Greater | Oct. 29th

“ Every spirit that does not confess Jesus is from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

   1 John 4:2-4

Beloved, we are in a moment of church history again when speculation and questions about eschatology arise. People observe world events and wonder who or what the antichrist is and where we stand on the timeline of human history. Because there are so many different views on such things within the body of Christ, some are left perplexed, while others are fearful of the days to come.

Let us acknowledge a couple of things from the Apostle John with the hopes of being encouraged. John states that the spirit of the antichrist had already come in his day. This is why John is writing this letter to the churches. So we know that the church has, will, and continues to battle against the spirit of the antichrist and the false teachers who John identifies as antichrists.

However, through this struggle, the true believers of Christ are victorious. The church will continue to stand until the coming of Christ Jesus. The victory is guaranteed because we are told that the Holy Spirit within us is greater than any spirit of the world. The Spirit of God is able to keep us in the truth, equip us to be witness for Jesus, and by the grace of God to stand. There is nothing to fear then, now, or ever.

The Holy Spirit in you is greater than the spirit that is in the world.

In Christ Alone.
