Beneath the Tree | March 24th

"He lay down and slept under a broom tree."

1 King 19:5

Elijah did not choose to rest under the broom tree because of the scenic view or the tranquility. It was more representative of his despair. Elijah was exhausted emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The sleep found at the tree's base was the desire to forget what was happening to him.

Exhaustion is not uncommon among the children of God. The confusion and weariness that comes when the results do not reflect the work and sacrifice put in. We us be reminded that the work of the Lord is not done by might or by power but by His Spirit.

The refreshing we need will not come by hiding beneath a tree but by hiding ourselves in Christ. The shelter we need when we are weary is in coming to Christ. Confessing our dependence upon Him and the promise the God will help us at all times. If you are confused and exhausted, come to the throne of grace. Tell the Lord that you need His peace because you do not fully understand all that He is doing or why things have not changed. The Lord will hold you and His grace will prove sufficient.

In Christ Alone.
