Destiny | Sep. 15th

  “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time, then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

   James 4:14-15

  Beloved, Scripture needs to remind us how we should see our lives and our future. We live in a culture that regularly accepts debits against tomorrow. It is common in life, and some purchases require payments over time. But may we not become accustomed to thinking tomorrow is guaranteed, or that we have power over the future.

  It is common to hear individuals claim they have envisioned their destiny and brought it into existence. However, only God is eternal, sovereign, and exercises providential control over creation.

 To suppose that we possess the ability or wisdom to bring our future into being is to have a mind that is contrary to that of Christ. True wisdom encourages us to make preparations for the future, to make the most of the talents and resources which God has given us, yet always with humility, recognizing that it will be God's will which ultimately prevails; we must be content with whatever He determines to allow into our lives, and since we have Christ we are able to do all things. This ought to be our way of looking at the world and the way in which we go through life.

  Let us acknowledge the Lord this morning by asking for His will to be accomplished in our lives as we trust God in all things.
