Having the Mind of God | Oct 6th

“Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

  Mark 8:33

Beloved, the troubling aspect of Jesus’ rebuke to Peter is that Peter sincerely believed his understanding of the Messiah was correct. He was convinced that Jesus’ teaching on suffering was mistaken. Nevertheless, Christ clarified that Peter’s thoughts were contrary to God’s will.

This is a specific rebuke to Peter’s misunderstanding of who Christ was and why He came, but it also reminds us all to check whether our will, desires, and thoughts align with God’s.

As Christians, we need to remind ourselves that God does not exist for our purposes; rather, the chief and exalted end of man is to live for God's glory. This involves surrendering our will and making sure we agree with what God has purposed for us.

Dear one, Peter assumed he saw things clearly, but he did not fully understand what God was doing. We need to prayerfully consider our ways in light of Scripture with godly wisdom, lest we be against the things of God while our minds are set only on the things of man.

In Christ Alone.
