It's to Heavy | Sep. 14th

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

   Galatians 6:2

Beloved, as we prayerfully consider this verse, let us acknowledge that there is no description of the burden itself. We are told to bear one another’s burden through the love of Christ.

In other words, we should not pick and choose whose burdens we bear or what burdens we will help with. When you have a young child who wants to help carry the groceries, we do not hand them the heaviest bag. We carefully select something that they can manage. When we come alongside another person in the midst of their trial, there must be an acknowledgment that the burden is greater than both parties can bear. The option to select a lighter bag is not given. That is why it is a burden.

However, we point one another to Christ, the true burden-bearer, and we are present to trust God with the person. Recognize the need, and try to encourage, love, and pray while waiting for God’s grace and intervention.

Do not let the weight or impossibility of the need keep you from coming alongside another. Christ is in the midst, and HIs grace will be sufficient as we comfort one another. Let us pray for one another today and ask the Holy Spirit to help us see the burden of others around us. The day will come when our hands will need lifting by others.

In Christ Alone.
