“He makes me lie down in green pastures.”

   Psalm 23:1

A good shepherd knows what is suitable for the sheep to eat. The shepherd knows when and what the sheep need. They are familiar with the terrain, knowing where the green pastures are and how to get there. So a good shepherd is moving in that direction with wisdom, strength, and compassion.

The Psalmist uses this beautiful image to relate to us the care of our Good Shepherd. Do not think that your life is given to chance or that you are on your own. The Good Shepherd knows where He is leading you, how to guide you to the green pastures, and to ensure that you are well fed. This is why those who are following are not in want. It is the faithful care of the Shepherd that ensures peace and well-being.

Trust your Shepherd today, for He has laid down His life for you.

In Christ Alone.
