Words of Life | June 9th

"From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and saltwater?"

James 3:10-11

The words uttered from one's mouth should not be blessings and then cursings. One should not praise God with one's mouth and then disparage another.

James calls our attention to the natural flow of a spring. A natural spring cannot produce salt and fresh water. It is the source of one or the other. What is natural to the source will flow out.

Beloved, if we praise God with our lips, then we should have words of grace for those around us. The speech that comes from our mouths should be edifying to those around us. We are encouraged to speak words of life to one another and to sing hymns and songs of encouragement. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to season our words with grace and enable us to bring the words of life to others. Let us build one another up instead of tearing them down.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Wight
