"Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God."

Psalm 84:3

A small porch in front of our home leads to the front door from the garage. There, we have a large Christmas wreath hanging. When the temperatures drop, a small bird will find refuge in the wreath. The sparrow or finch will find shelter from the chilly winter wind.

This fragile creature finds safety and comfort in the wreath. How much more does the child of God find refuge in coming to the Father's throne of grace? The Psalmist sees the sparrows and swallows nesting at the temple, near the altar of God. He envies them and longs to dwell near the altar of God.

We are hidden in Christ, and Him we have refuge. May our hearts long to dwell with God. Let us enjoy our fellowship with Him and take full advantage in laying our burden before the Lord. Take refuge from this world at the altar of God today.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Wight
