"Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall."

1 Corinthians 10:12

Have you ever been overconfident? As a young teen, I tossed a figurine in the air and caught it as a way of teasing my mother—something sons do in a loving way. My mother asked me not to keep doing it, but I reassured her that nothing would happen because I was confident in my abilities. Then I dropped it, and it chipped. Needless to say, I felt horrible.

There is a temptation to think that we are secure in our strength. We feel that we are in control and depend upon our spirituality as firm. We are not to doubt the sure foundation we have in the grace of God but let us be reminded we only stand by the grace of God.

Christ is our security. The Holy Spirit keeps us and empowers us. It is good to remind ourselves that we are weak and need God's care. Let us stay close to the Lord today lest we fall.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Wight
