“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared.”

   1 John 3:2

We have contemplated this verse for a few days, thinking of the different ways in which we will be different when all things are made new. That which awaits us is beyond what we can imagine, yet its reality is true as any experience of today.

What is a painful reality to us in this life is the struggle with our sinful nature and the temptations from without. We are vexed inwardly and outwardly. From the time we are aware of right and wrong to our final hour, temptations are present.

The day is coming, beloved, when we will no longer struggle with the enemy of our soul or our flesh. The full work of redemption will be realized and enjoyed for all of eternity. We will know peace like we have never experienced in this life. So do not lose heart, the reward is just ahead. The enemy will be fully annihilated, and we will enter into that final rest. The armor will no longer be needed, and we will worship our Lord forevermore. Praising Him for the victory won on our behalf.

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared.”

   1 John 3:2

When we have been redeemed by God, this is not only a spiritual event, but the Lord has also redeemed our physical being. The promise of the resurrection ensures us of a new, glorious body. One that will be free from pain, sickness, and death.

This has not yet appeared. For now, our outward appearance continues to weaken as the inner man is renewed. One day, the outward man shall be made new as well and will never experience corruption again, for it will be immortal.

We are God’s children now, but we experience pain and sickness. Weariness and death. The day is coming when all of these will cease; death itself will end. For all of eternity, we shall enjoy a painless life. There will never be any form of physical suffering again. Let this promise comfort you in your weakness today, while encouraging you to look forward to what is to come.

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared.”

   1 John 3:2

Beloved, let us consider for a moment what is awaiting us in the glorious return of our Lord, when all things are made new.

We cannot fully comprehend the full scope of our glorious transformation when Christ brings us home. Just for a moment, think about how it will feel to have not one negative feeling ever again. We will never be impatient again or feel the sorrow of our own irrational anger. You will never know the sorrow or discouragement that comes from others being unkind towards you.

It will be a life of total peace and joy for all of eternity. Nothing will ever disrupt your serenity or take joy from you ever again. We cannot imagine a life void of hostility or tribulation. There will be perfect peace in your spirit and mind because we will be with God. All things will be made new, and we will rest in the finished work of redemption.
