“Forsake me not when my strength is spent.”
Psalm 71:9
The psalmist’s plea is filled with humility and wisdom, for the day will come when our strength is spent. Today we may be strong of heart, but trials befall us and leave us faint of heart. Our minds can be bright and clear as the dawning sun, yet the clouds of depression or the setting years bring the night. Isaiah declared that even the young grow weary; likewise, the time comes when our pace slows, and we cannot do as we once did. It is a reminder of the curse of sin and the frailty of this life. Yet there is One who is unchanging, the Ancient of Days.
Christ remains unchanged throughout all time. He is our protector and a constant source of help during moments of weakness. Therefore, do not lose heart; rather, join the Psalmist in praying that when your strength is exhausted, you will continue to abide with God and He with you.
God has promised to complete the good work He has begun in us, and the Spirit will fulfill His purpose for us even when our strength is depleted. Do not lose heart; the Almighty remains with you and will sustain you until you see Him face to face. God will not abandon you today or at any time.
In Christ Alone.
