“It seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you...that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.”

  Luke 1:3,4

Beloved, our salvation comes solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ. The historical accounts about Jesus in the Gospel of Luke provide a foundation for this faith.

The Bible, inspired and preserved by the Holy Spirit, contains a variety of literary forms. Luke provides a historically detailed account of Jesus for Theophilus, who had already learned about Christ’s life and works. Luke’s intention was to give him assurance and certainty.

Let us be thinking Christians who read and study the word of God daily, knowing it is the inspired testimony of Christ. Luke, under the Holy Spirit's inspiration, wrote an orderly account to avoid confusion about Jesus' actions and teachings, offering clarity and a sure testimony that Jesus is the God-Man who came to us and will come again. Let us be certain of the things we have been taught.

In Christ Alone.
