Behind Closed Doors | April 24th

“On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.”

  John 20:19

Beloved, the disciples were locked away in fear, without hope, and with their faith nonexistent. Yet, none of this prevented the loving Savior from reaching them.

The challenges of life and the barriers we create do not prevent Jesus from entering our fearful circumstances. Just as the brilliance of the sun dispels the darkness at dawn, so the risen Christ dispels our doubts and fears. Darkness and shadows cannot remain where the Prince of Peace is present. He, the God of all comfort, proclaims, “Peace be with you.” In the midst of darkness, we hear His words of consolation. The loving kindness of our Lord envelops the troubled soul as we reflect on the cost of our salvation and recall His promise never to leave us or forsake us.

To Him, darkness is as clear as the noonday. Nothing and no one is hidden from the God who sees and who helps us in our time of need. Let us listen to the words of our Lord today: “Peace be with you.” This is not spoken in vain, but stands as a steadfast promise to God’s children.

In Christ Alone.
