Jesus Prayed | Nov. 25th

“For their sake, I consecrate myself.”

  John 17:19

On the night He was betrayed, Jesus prayed for His disciples. He asked the Father to protect them from the evil one because they belong to Him. Jesus deliberately prayed aloud so His disciples could hear His words. He did this to encourage them and to show them His heart.

This prayer is a special act of intercession. Jesus has set Himself apart as our high priest; this is the consecration He speaks of. He continues to intercede for us, asking for our protection from the evil one.

Because we belong to God, Jesus keeps our faith rooted in His truth. The Spirit protects us from the evil one's deception. The deceiver tries to distort the Gospel with false teachers and by twisting God's word. Jesus still intercedes for His people, and in Him, we have overcome, just as the early disciples did.

In Christ Alone.
