No Greater Love | Oct 13th

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for a friend.”

  John 15:13

Beloved, have you ever prayerfully considered the simplicity of this verse and yet its weight?

Often, we interpret this verse in strictly literal terms, considering individuals such as soldiers or first responders who have sacrificed their lives to protect or save others. While such acts are undoubtedly honorable, for followers of Christ, laying down one's life for others often manifests differently in daily life.

Laying down one's life for others may involve a parent caring for a child or a spouse supporting a loved one while relying on God's grace. It entails seeking reconciliation instead of revenge, and demonstrating patience and forgiveness rather than anger. It also requires prioritizing others above oneself and accepting mistreatment or false accusations, while maintaining trust in God's justice, protection, and purposes.

Living out this calling faithfully toward those we love is challenging. However, Christ instructs us to extend the love of God even to our enemies. Laying down our lives for individuals with whom we struggle to be patient is a genuine testament to Christian living. For this, we require the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Let us pursue God's will by loving others and daily laying down our lives for those around us.

In Christ Alone.
