“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.”
1 Peter 4:1
Beloved, although we are familiar with this verse, we often remain surprised when trials arise, as though they were not intended for us.
We face a dilemma when it comes to trials. They are often unannounced, and we are usually ill-prepared. Trials are not circumstances that we enjoy. They come in all forms, and they are also unending. In every season of life, trials come, and they do not pass as quickly as we hope and pray for.
Trials also bring questions that sometimes do not get answered. Such as “ Why is this happening to me or my loved one?’ What is the point of this or why now?”
However, amid these experiences, we must remember that we are not subject to fate; rather, God is providentially at work in our lives. He is accomplishing specific purposes in us and through us. We must trust that, in His wisdom and love, God will work all things for the good of our salvation.
Do not think it strange today if you are being tried; leave your burden to the Lord while you request His will to be done in and for you.
In Christ Alone.
