“He went with him.”
Mark 5:24
Have you ever asked someone to accompany you to a place, event, or appointment because you felt anxious? You sought support and a familiar presence for encouragement. However, certain circumstances in life arise when no one can walk with us. At times, no one is immediately present, or their presence might feel equally overwhelming.
Jairus’s daughter was gravely ill, nearing death. Only one person could restore her health. The Gospel of Mark does not record an extended conversation between Jesus and Jairus. Jairus simply expressed his need, and Jesus accompanied him. Beloved, you also can present your needs to Christ. There is no requirement for elaborate explanations or persuasive words. As Jesus went with Jairus, so too will He go with you.
When the report arrived, there was no further need to trouble the teacher, as the young girl had passed away. Jesus responded by saying, “Do not fear, only believe.” The words of Christ remain true and continue to offer hope to God’s people: “Do not fear, only believe.” We are sustained by God and His faithfulness.
Upon their arrival, they found the situation as Jairus had feared. Jesus then brought the father and mother to the child’s side. He remained with them throughout, and then took the child’s hand and restored her to life.
Beloved, God is present with you today from beginning to end, in every circumstance and throughout every season of life. If the Lord is your Shepherd, then goodness and mercy accompany you, even as you walk through the valley of the shadow of death. In that place, Christ is with you. Do not be afraid; only believe.
In Christ Alone.
